Eligibility Criteria for Admission

Anna University & State Government-notified eligibility for B.E./B.Tech First Year and Lateral Entry. Community-wise minimum marks listed below.

I Under-Graduate (B.E. / B.Tech) — HSC (Academic) or Equivalent

A pass in (10+2) / HSC examination with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry as subjects of study. Community-wise minimum aggregate (average of three subjects) is:

Note: Aggregate = average of Mathematics + Physics + Chemistry marks. Rounding off of minimum eligibility marks is not allowed. Improvement marks are not considered for minimum eligibility.

II Under-Graduate — HSC (Vocational) stream

A pass in HSC Vocational stream — minimum aggregate calculated from related subjects + Vocational subjects (theory and practicals). Community-wise minima:

The aggregate is calculated across both theory and practical components of the Vocational subject + the related academic subjects, as notified by the Tamil Nadu Government.

III Eligibility for NRI Students

NRI candidates must have passed the 12th standard or equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects of study, and must obtain an Eligibility Certificate from Anna University, Chennai.

Sponsorship rule: The NRI financially supporting the candidate must be a blood relation — Father or Mother only.

  • Embassy certificate of sponsor (original)
  • Nativity certificate of financial supporter

IV Lateral Entry (B.E. / B.Tech) — Direct Second Year Scheme

For candidates entering directly into the second year (third semester) of B.E. / B.Tech via lateral admission — two qualification routes:

A. Diploma Candidates

A pass with minimum eligibility marks in a recognised Diploma in Engineering / Technology from the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu, or equivalent — in the discipline prescribed for the respective degree course.

B. B.Sc Candidates

A pass with minimum eligibility marks in any recognised Bachelor\'s Degree in Science (10+2+3 pattern, minimum 3-year duration) with Mathematics as one of the subjects at degree level.

C. Sandwich Diploma

A pass with minimum eligibility marks in one of the Sandwich Diploma courses in Engineering / Technology of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu, or equivalent prescribed for the respective degree course.

D. Part-Time Diploma

Marks secured in the last three semester examinations (including private-study marks) shall be considered for arriving at the minimum eligibility average.

Important: Rounding-off of minimum eligibility marks is NOT allowed. Improvement marks obtained by candidates will NOT be considered for the minimum eligibility computation.

When does admission start for 2026-2027?
Applications open the first week of February. TNEA counselling typically begins in June following Class XII results. Direct admission (management quota) is open throughout the year subject to seat availability.
Is hostel mandatory?
No, hostel is optional. Day-scholars from nearby towns (Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Mannargudi, Mayiladuthurai etc.) can travel via our college bus network.
Can I get an education loan?
Yes — we have tie-ups with major nationalised and private banks. The admissions office provides all required documents (fee structure, admission letter, course duration certificate). Most students get loans approved within 2-3 weeks.
What is the placement support like?
Dedicated placement cell from your second year. 150+ recruiters visit each year. Pre-placement training, aptitude prep, mock interviews and resume building are included. Highest CTC 18 LPA, average 5.4 LPA.
Are diploma holders eligible for lateral entry?
Yes — diploma holders can apply for lateral admission to the second year through TANCET / direct mode, subject to availability of lateral entry seats.
Will my Class XII board be a problem?
No. We accept all recognised state boards, CBSE, ICSE, and equivalent boards. The minimum 45% PCM aggregate (40% for reserved) applies regardless of board.
How do I pay the fees?
Online (NEFT / IMPS / UPI to college bank account), DD in favour of "Annai College of Engineering & Technology", or in person at the admissions office. Receipt is issued on confirmation.
Can I change my branch after Year 1?
Branch change is permitted within the first 2 weeks of Year 1, subject to seat availability and faculty approval. Performance in Year 1 may also be considered for inter-branch transfers as per Anna University rules.
